RAVEN DRUM FOUNDATION & GOODNOISE STUDIO EVENT

Music shows us that everything is connected. It has the power to soothe your soul, revive your troubled spirit, and unite people as one. Rock legends and Hall of Fame inductees Rick Allen (Def Leppard) and Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver, Kings of Chaos) brought together a community of their drumming peers, supporters, donors and music lovers for a special event to honor and support Veterans, first responders, and trauma survivors at Sorum’s GoodNoise studio in Palm Springs. With a strong belief in the power of community and experiencing music together, the Raven Drum Foundation event kicked off with a healing drum circle and concluded with a live performance by Lauren Monroe. GoodNoise is devoted to backing mission-driven endeavors from scientific research to social and environmental impact.

Healing Tools for PTSD – More Than Just Veterans Need Support

This conversation between John Roberts, a retired Marine and member of the Wounded Warrior Project, and Rick Allen, Def Leppard’s drummer, highlights their shared experiences with PTSD and their mission to raise awareness and normalize it. Both men describe the isolation and emotional struggles that followed their respective traumas—Roberts from a helicopter crash and Allen from a car accident that led to the loss of his arm. They emphasize the importance of building community, seeking help, and maintaining supportive connections as key steps toward healing. Drumming, in particular, became a therapeutic tool for Allen, helping him find calm and process his trauma. Together, they encourage others suffering from PTSD to reach out for help, stressing that asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

One is a Rockstar. One is a Warrior. Both Have PTS.

Rick Allen, drummer for the rock band Def Leppard, and John Roberts, warrior and EVP of warrior relations at Wounded Warrior Project come from two very different worlds, but share one thing in common, post-traumatic stress(PTS). They joined together to send a message of hope and help to warriors living with PTSD for 2014’s PTS Awareness Day.

Drum Circle Benefits

The Raven Drum Foundation actively supports veterans and first responders through the therapeutic power of drum circles. Founded by Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen and Lauren Monroe, the foundation uses rhythm and drumming as a form of healing for individuals dealing with trauma, PTS, and stress. Drum circles provide a communal, safe space where veterans and first responders can connect with others who understand their experiences, allowing them to express emotions, reduce anxiety, and foster resilience. By combining rhythm with mindfulness and teamwork, the Raven Drum Foundation helps these heroes manage their stress, process trauma, and find pathways to mental and emotional well-being.

Raven Drum Foundation Drum Circle

Raven Drum Foundation, founded by Rick Allen and Lauren Monroe exists to serve, educate and empower veterans and people in crisis through the power of the drum.
